Lincoln
County Courthouse :
Main Street's original Courthouse was built on this site in 1786. Records contained in this building date back to 1779, some are written on sheepskin. Genealogists from across the United States use these historic resources in researching the history of their ancestors. |
Stanford
Presbyterian Church :
One of the oldest Presbyterian congregations in the state was founded in 1788. The original church on this site was built in 1838, and destroyed in 1887 by a tornado. The present church was built in 1888. |
| The Interior Journal :
This weekly paper has been published under the same name since 1872. It originally covered the interior of the state where it most likely got its name. The paper is one of the oldest continuously operated newspapers in Kentucky. |
Baughman
Mill, Buffalo Mill or Benjamin Logan Mill:
The first steam mill was built in 1848 at Buffalo Springs by Wesley. It was torn down in 1895 and the logs were used to build the present mill on Depot Street. It is the tallest building in Stanford, being four stories high. |
L&N
Depot :
The original structure, built in 1866 was replaced by the existing building in 1912. Completely renovated, is now a museum and community center with park and walking trail. |
Stanford
Female Seminary :
Incorporated by an act of the Kentucky Legislature in 1869, but in 1871 was changed to Female College and in 1907 was changed again to Stanford College. It was closed after tax supported schools were made available. In 1939, after extensive remodeling it was opened as a funeral home and presently is Fox Funeral Home. |
Harvey
Helm Museum :
Located at 315 W Main Street in Stanford, former home of Mrs. Harvey Helm, willed to people of Lincoln by Mrs. Helm in 1965 for a Library. Now operated by Harvey Helm Library Board and Historic and Genealogical Library and Museum. |
